When Community Shows Up: Our March Break Community Skate

There’s something special that happens when a simple idea turns into something bigger.

This March Break, three local women-owned businesses came together with one goal: bring the community together. No sales, no agenda - just a rink, some music, and an open invitation to come skate.

And the community showed up.

Kids wobbling across the ice in their first pair of skates. Confident little hockey players weaving through the crowd. Babies bundled up in strollers on the sidelines. Parents laughing, chatting, and trying to remember how to stop properly.

It was skating of all abilities, and that was exactly the point.

The Details That Made It Feel Like Magic

There were good tunes playing, plenty of smiles, and a rink full of neighbours who may not have otherwise crossed paths.

And of course - hot chocolate.

Peach Coffee (a Burlington staple) came through with the kind of hot chocolate that makes you feel like a kid again: warm, rich, topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. The perfect post-skate treat for cold hands and rosy cheeks.

Little details like that turn a simple event into a moment people remember.

Why Events Like This Matter

Running a local business often means wearing a lot of hats, but moments like this remind us why we do it.

Community isn’t built online. It’s built in the small moments - like helping a child up after a fall on the ice, sharing a laugh with someone you’ve never met before, or watching a rink fill up with families simply happy to be together.

It’s proof that community > everything.

Thank You for Showing Up

To everyone who came out to skate, sip hot chocolate, and spend part of their March Break with us - thank you.

And to Zeeba Grande Realtor ® & Krista from The Home Enthusiast who collaborated to make it happen, this was such a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when we work together.

Here’s to more moments like this.

Because when community shows up, everybody wins.

Oh & we were able to collect a full bag of socks to benefit Open Doors Burlington
